At first when Koyannisqatsi began I was confused about what the purpose of the movie was. As I watched, I noticed there was a theme of opposites throughout the film. These included order vs. chaos, crowded vs. empty, and motion vs. stillness. One interesting idea that the filmmaker showcased is that these opposites can exist within each other. For example, some scenes showed the stillness of a person while the surroundings were in motion. This created an unsettling atmosphere and the feeling of being small or lonely. The main message that I took from the movie is that both humans and nature go through similar process.
